CapContext ("we", "us", or "our") operates the CapContext mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect when you use our App, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

Information We Collect
Account Information
- Email address, display name, and profile picture (optional) — collected during registration
- Authentication data — we support email/password, passwordless email codes, and Google/Apple sign-in
Usage Data
- Daily listening time (seconds listened per day)
- Usage timestamps and streak data
- Audio clips you have liked or bookmarked
AI Interaction Data
- Words and sentence context you tap for AI explanations
- Explanations you choose to save
- Daily AI lookup counts
Subscription Data
- Subscription type (monthly, yearly, or lifetime), transaction IDs, purchase and expiration dates
- Processed through Apple In-App Purchase — we store transaction metadata only
Support Requests
- Content of support submissions you send through the App
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect device identifiers (IDFA), location data, or contacts
- We do not use tracking or advertising SDKs
How We Use Your Information
- Provide the service — deliver audio content, generate AI explanations, manage your account and subscriptions
- Track learning progress — display your listening time, streaks, and saved vocabulary
- Enforce usage limits — free users receive 5 AI lookups per day; Pro subscribers receive unlimited lookups
- Respond to support requests
- Improve the App — understand usage patterns to improve content and features
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate CapContext:
- OpenRouter / Google Gemini — when you tap a word for an AI explanation, the word and its sentence context are sent to an AI model via OpenRouter to generate the explanation
- YouDao Dictionary API — words are sent to retrieve pronunciation data (phonetic transcriptions and audio)
- Apple StoreKit — subscription purchases are processed through Apple's In-App Purchase system
- Resend — your email address is shared with Resend to deliver authentication emails (verification codes and password resets)
- Cloudflare — our infrastructure provider for hosting, database, and file storage
Each third-party service has its own privacy policy governing its use of your data.
Data Storage and Security
- Data is stored on Cloudflare's global infrastructure (D1 database and R2 object storage)
- Passwords are hashed using PBKDF2 with random salts
- All data is transmitted over HTTPS
- Authentication uses server-generated bearer tokens
Data Retention
- Account data is retained while your account is active
- Usage history and saved explanations are retained to preserve your learning progress
- You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us
Children's Privacy
CapContext is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Request access to the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Update your profile information directly through the App
